Play Power in my Prayer

It’s raining!

As I’m sitting writing this the rain is lashing it down outside, reminding me of the time when Elijah prayed about the rain in the Bible. It’s an amazing true story of the power of prayer. Read it now in 1 Kings Chapters 17 and 18.

Another Bible bit

Check out James 5 v 16 - 18. It’s talking about praying for healing and says, ‘when a good man prays, great things happen’, then goes on to talk about Elijah and his prayers.

Challenge

Are you willing to be like Elijah?

Elijah was just an ordinary person like us but he listened to and obeyed God.

God told Elijah what to do. Elijah believed God knew what He was doing and he trusted Him. So he did what God said.

Do you want your prayers to be powerful like Elijah’s?

Are you going to listen to God and do what He says?

Are you willing to step out in faith for God expecting to see Him act in power?

Listen

Some people find it easy to listen to God alone in a quiet room; others find it easier to go for a walk or a run.  Whatever works for you, try asking the Holy Spirit to still your thoughts and give you His thoughts. Ask God what he wants you to do, either now or in the future and then listen to what He says to you. That answer may come as a thought or a picture or a feeling although some people have literally heard words!

Whatever God says to you, write it down or draw it and check it out to make sure it’s from God, firstly with the Bible. Does it fit in with what the Bible says God is like? Secondly, share it with another Christian so they can check it out with you and encourage you and perhaps pray with you.

Obey

If you’ve checked it out and God is asking you to do something or take steps towards something, are you going to obey Him? God never asks us to do something that we can’t do, with His help. If you’ve made that good decision to obey Him it’s sometimes helpful to ask another Christian to ask you later if you’ve done it. That makes you more responsible.

Prayer Spotting

Prayer Spotting is a great prayer activity which helps you to pray for lots of different things. You can play it (and pray it!) in this Activity Zone.

Prayer Diary

A great thing to do is keep a prayer diary.  Make a note of the date and what you prayed and leave a space for the answer. then when it is answered record what happened. You will find it really encouraging to look back on as you see God answering your prayers.

Email challenge

I’d love to hear what God has said to you (or if you need me to check something out with you) or what happens when you do something He asks you to do, or how He answered your prayers. Email me and let me know.
