Wise
Intro
God always chooses the best possible ways that will bring about the best results. He always makes wise decisions about what he will do.
Bible Bit 1
Ps 104:24 says, “Lord you have made many things. With your wisdom you made them all.” God created the world with wisdom - the way he made it all work together so well and the detail he put into it shows how wise he is.
Bible Bit 2
Romans 11:33 says, “God’s wisdom and knowledge have no end! No one can explain the things God decides. No one can understand God’s ways.”
The wisdom God has is often different from the world’s wisdom.
God’s Wisdom
God won’t always do things the way we think he should! Sometimes we can’t understand the decisions he makes but, because he is wise, we can trust that he will always make the right decisions to bring about the best from his point of view (don’t forget he can see everything and knows everything now and in the future and we don’t, so he knows best!).
Prayer Promise
James 1:5 says, “If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it”.
Do you have any big decisions to make right now? Ask God for his wisdom!
Decision Time
There are lots of choices and decisions we have to make in our lives. Decisions like who to choose as friends, what to say to people, which clubs to join and what to watch on TV, how much time to spend revising for tests, which Christmas presents to ask for, what subjects to choose in year 10, who to go out with, what to tell our friends about Jesus, which toothpaste to use, who to marry and which job to choose.
Some are small decisions and it wouldn’t really matter too much what we did but some are decisions that affect other people, our wellbeing, our safety and our future. It is so important to make sure we are making the right choices and the best way to do that is to ask God.
Friends Challenge
Make a paper “chooser” and write something encouraging under each numbered triangle e.g. God loves you, God cares for you, God listens to you, You are wonderfully made, God has a plan for you, God knows how many hairs are on your head! etc. Try it out on your friends!
Extra - Wisdom of Solomon
King Solomon in the Bible was perhaps the wisest man who ever lived, because he asked God for wisdom. You can read about him in 1 Kings.
He wrote much of Proverbs, a Bible book full of wise teaching.
I’ve mixed up these verses from Proverbs. See if you can match them to the right teachings (without looking at your Bible). They all describe what a wise person is like...
- Proverbs 12:15
- Proverbs 12:16
- Proverbs 14:15
- Proverbs 14:16
- Proverbs 15:24
- Proverbs 15:31
- Proverbs 19:11
- thinks about what he does
- pays attention to correction
- is careful and stays out of trouble
- is patient
- listens to advice
- ignores an insult
- does things that will make his life better
