The books of 1 & 2 Kings contain the history of Israel when it was ruled by many kings.  It begins with the death of King David.
Romans is a letter written by Paul to the Church in Rome.  It is an important book, but it can be difficult to understand, but some verses like Romans 10v9 are simple and every Christian should know them.
Joshua tells the story of how the Israelites entered the promised land.  The victory at Jericho (chapter 6) is the most famous story.
Acts of the Apostles tells us all about the 30 years after Jesus’ death and resurrection.  The Dave Godfrey song “On the Day of Pentecost” is based on the events of Chapter 2.
Haggai was a prophet from the old testament.  His message was and is an important one—we must try to make God a home (in our hearts) if we expect God to bless us.
Psalms is a collects of songs and poetry.  Some are very long like 119 while others are very short like 134, but they are all about praising God.
Ruth is the of how a widow from a foreign land became an ancestor of Christ.  The most popular verse in Ruth is chapter 1 verse 16—“Your people will be my people and your God will be my God.”
The books of Chronicles can seem boring because they contain lists of family trees.  However they do show us that throughout this history God was with his people and he was slow to judge and quick to forgive.
Luke is one of the 4 gospels at the beginning of the New Testament.  It tells of the most important time in history—the life of Jesus Christ.  There are many important stories in Luke including Jesus’ death and resurrection, but there is also an important verse tucked away in chapter 1 Luke 1v37.
1 & 2 Corinthians are long letters written by Paul and found in the new testament.  Chapter 13 of 1 Corinthians is all about love and is one of the most famous passages in the bible.
Genesis begins the bible with the story of how the world was created by God—the beginning of all history.
Proverbs is a book of wisdom.  Written by Solomon as instructions on how to live your life.  Chapter 3 is full of great advice on the way to live trusting God.
The book of Esther is a simple story about how a plot to kill the Jews was uncovered and stopped.
Judges tells us the history of God's people from the time they settled in the promised land until they appointed a king.  It tells us the stories of Samson, Deborah and Gideon.
1 and 2 Samuel tells us of the last Judge (Samuel) and the first two kings—Saul and David.
Isaiah is a big book of prophecy, it tells us of may events that are know history—the coming of Christ, and of things still to happpen—the second coming of Christ.
